Note : Question number 1 is compulsory. Attempt any three questions from the rest.1. (a) What are the different types of memory sytems ? Explain two important features of primary memory in a computer system. (6)

(b) “lnstead of using the entire data communication as a single module, the task is broken into various subtasks and each subtask operates separately by different layers of the communication architecture.” Explain the process given in the statement above in the context of the OSI reference model. (8)

(c) “WINDOWS O/S provides an environment that enhances DOS in many ways.” Explain the key features of GUI in WINDOWS (any version) in support of the above statement. (7)

(d) Write a step-by-step procedure to do each of the following activities using MS-WORD. (9)
(i) To insert a special symbol/character in the WORD document.
(ii) To check the spelling mistakes in a WORD document.
(iii) To provide different types of line spacing at various places in a WORD document.

2. (a) Explain the working mechanism of pipelining. How does pipelining improve system throughput ? (6)

(b) Write four types of wide area networks, with an example of each. (4)

2. (a) Write a step-by-step procedure to take BACKUP of data using the Microsoft Backup utility in WINDOWS 95. (5)

(b) What is the role of “Headers and Footers” in MS-WORD document ? Explain the way to create a header and footer in a WORD document through an example. (5)

4. (a) Explain ’system call’. How is it different from the call of a library function ? (4)

(b) Explain any two multimedia tools in WINDOWS 95 along wiih one use of each and the types of files they accept. (6)

5. (a) Write a step-by-step procedure to create a table in the WORD document, with the help of an example. (5)

(b) With the help of suitable diagrams explain the concept of simplex, half-duplex and full duplex communication. (5)
