If you spent most of your high school in the computer lab learning how to make it do cool things by stringing together a bunch of words that might look like gibberish to the uninitiated, but to you they spell “code,” then you are among the lucky few who have a clear career path ahead of them.

Yes, computer science may be a lot more than writing programs, but for a lot of IT professionals, that’s where the seeds of passion are sown.

So, if you are passionate about making this wondrous little machine do wonderful things and have a few other qualities like an aptitude for math, logical and analytical ability, and problem solving skills, then you are an ideal candidate for computer science programs.

A computer science major will give you the opportunity to work with cutting edge technologies in a broad spectrum of exciting jobs that involve designing software, writing code, maintaining systems, managing database, etc. Some of the popular computer science careers are as follows:

1. Computer Programmer:

A computer programmer uses programming languages like C++, Java, etc. to write a series of commands that a computer follows to complete a task. Programmers are also responsible for testing, debugging, modifying, and expanding existing programs.

Computer programmers can find employment in a variety of industries ranging from IT firms to financial institutions. As they get more technical and business experience, programmers may be promoted to senior roles as lead programmers, systems analysts, or managers leading a team of programmers.

Besides a computer science degree, those interested in programming may benefit by professional certifications in JAVA II, C++, Microsoft ASP, etc.

2. Database Administrators:

Database administrators are responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and repair of an organization’s database. They may also be responsible for formulating policies and procedures regarding the management, security, and use of the database.

Candidates can boost their chances of employment by completing professional certifications like Structured Query Language (SQL), SAP, etc after completing their computer science degree.

Like computer programmers, database administrators are also employed in a wide range of industries such as technology and telecommunication companies, financial firms, government agencies, etc. Many database administrators are promoted to managerial positions in their organizations depending on factors such as their education level, experience, and the ability to stay on top of emerging technologies.

3. Network Administrators:

Network administration has emerged as one of the most popular computer science careers. Network administrators install and maintain hardware and software that make up an organization’s computer system. They are responsible for the smooth running of a company’s LAN, WAN, Internet, Intranet, and security systems. In some organizations, network administrators are also given the task of designing and deploying networks.

Those who have a bachelor’s degree in computer science along with professional certifications in A +, CCNA, Novell-C.N.A, C.N.E.- Advanced Administration, etc. are likely to enjoy good employment opportunities.

The good news for individuals interested in computer science degrees is that the U.S. Department of Labor has projected excellent job prospects for two of these three IT careers through 2018.*

There is growing evidence that computer science majors are back on the radar of technology companies looking to hire IT professionals who are not just technically sound, but also business savvy and skilled at solving problems and communication.

Although computer based training is provided by diverse high school nationwide as well as colleges and other educational center, employers consider the need of a better IT training.

Technical training for improving soft skills can be achieved easily because of the use of computers in almost any household in the United States and other countries, as well as in all respectable businesses from small-medium to major companies with the latest technologies and equipment.

Computer training software is available almost anywhere, allowing people to gain the necessary skills in areas such as accounting and finance, administrative support, business, communication, consulting, selling and customer service, human resources, industrial operation, management, marketing, personal development, networking and safety, strategic planning, technical training and IT training.

Computer based training comes in the form of CD-Rom courses, so any individual who knows how to turn on a computer can learn through a diligent application process at home, office or school, and even at Internet cafes.

The scope of the deficiency of technical training underscores the need for IT training courses as complementary to any other former education.

Other advanced computer skills can be easily acquired with high-quality computer training, as a long-term reliance alternative that increases the opportunity of recruitment for workers.

Networking sectors and other companies which performance is based on computer systems, strongly promote among their employers the enrollment in computer based training programs to improve their skills, while they stay updated in new technologies.

From creative computer based training to IT training, CD-Rom software can be combined with interactive online courses and tests to round the individuals’ learning experience. Technical training can be combined with live practice, which aids in improving overall skills.

Although some companies do not have a web server of their own or cannot afford the licensing to own computer-training software, a CD-Rom is the perfect answer to offer their employers a computer based training experience.

Furthermore, many courses online, or through land-bases institutions, offer along with the learning material computer, training CD’s to allow the student to practice at home, or elsewhere when they are not connected to the Internet.

IT training and technical training software is usually accompanied by a complete step-to-step development guide, which allows people to practice safely with their own equipment or those in their work environment.

Natalie Aranda writes about technical training and computer training. Computer based training or CBT comes in the form of CD-Rom courses, so any individual who knows how to turn on a computer can learn through a diligent application process at home, office or school, and even at Internet cafes. NETg integrated solutions are designed specifically to help unlock the potential of people throughout a whole organization, in order to achieve competitively results.

The time comes when most people want to find another job. Many have been in their current job for years and have learnt how to use the computer system for their particular job. They might have been taught to use a patient records system, a stock control system, a data entry system or a company specific program. If you ask them to use a computer for any other task they panic. Does this sound like you? Are you being let down by your lack of computer knowledge or your lack of confidence?

Many jobs these days require you to use a computer. You might be able to navigate your way through your company’s stock control system, but could you type a letter and format the text? Could you produce a poster with illustrations and formated text? Do you know how to turn the computer off correctly, save and open documents properly. Too many people panic at the thought of doing these things and think they are stuck in the job they have.

Don’t feel you are stuck in your job. It is possible to improve your skills. If you live in a town or city you will probably find a choice of computer courses you can attend. Don’t feel you will be “the idiot” and everyone else will be much faster/cleverer that you. They won’t – that’s why they are there! You can all learn together, make new friends and have fun.

Not everyone can attend a class. If you live in a more rural area there might not be any classes close to your home. If you do find a class, it might not be at a convenient time. Some people lack the confidence needed to attend a class, especially if they had a bad experience at school. If this is you, consider phoning and talking with the class tutor. Most of us aren’t dragons and will be more than happy to chat to you and put your mind a rest before you start the class. I have had people literally shaking with fear at the first class. I try hard to make my classes relaxed, fun and sociable. By the second week even the most timid students are keen to return. We have a laugh and a joke – and most importantly a tea break.

If you are unable to attend a class, what are your options? Consider studying at home. Find a course that is written for adults, in an easy to follow style. Make sure the course has step by step instructions and contains lots of illustrations to help you. Make sure the course starts at the beginning and teaches you all the basic jargon. If you have never use a computer before, make sure it shows you how to use the mouse. Buy the course and work your way through it at home.

Set some time aside when you won’t be disturbed. Make yourself a cup of tea and work your way through the course at your own pace. If you get “stuck”, don’t get frustrated. Turn the computer off and go and do something completely different. When you come back you will most likely find the problem has disappeared. If you are older, don’t get cross with yourself if you learn more slowly. Remember – you are studying at home, at your own pace, in your own time. It isn’t a competition. You just want to improve your skills. Learn slowly and you will remember what you have learnt. Try and learn too fast and you will become confused and frustrated.

Do you have long term career goals? Are you looking for a new career or looking to move up in your current career? Having long term career goals is very important and you need to know what to expect and how to move up or move on with your career. Here are some tips for you.

First, you need to have a good understanding of what you want out of your career and you need to understand what is good for you. There are certain things that are important in a career, but you need to understand how to find out what is important to you.

Second, you need to understand that what makes you happy is much more important than money or benefits. You have to figure out what it is that makes you happy with your work. If you are not happy with your career, then you need to make a change. This cannot be a change that is made in a way that you cannot pay your bills.

You need to understand that you do not just go and walk out on the career you have now, but you take the necessary steps to get yourself into the new career you will love. This could be school classes towards a degree or classes towards a trade that you love. Whatever it is you have to take these steps to get to where you want to go.

Third, set your goals and go ahead and follow your dreams. My dream is to work in the golf industry for the rest of my life and in order to do this I have to go to a school to become a golf pro. This is a change I am willing to make and you have to be willing to make similar changes to achieve your long term career goals that you are after.

For job seekers in the field of information technology, obtaining a technical certification comes with the territory. But with so many IT certifications out there, it can be difficult to choose which one to pursue. Microsoft certifications aren’t any easier. Since Microsoft is such a leader in the industry and offers so many products and services, choosing the right Microsoft certification can seem like a difficult task indeed. But there are many compelling reasons to get a Microsoft certification. Here are just a few:

1. Microsoft programs are ubiquitous in the workplace.

If you have a job that involves computers, chances are very good that you work with at least one Microsoft product. Because Microsoft products are so popular, you will always have an opportunity to use your Microsoft training in whatever job you have. You won’t have to worry about Microsoft products going out of vogue and your certification losing its value.

2. Getting a Microsoft certification gives you an edge in the job search.

In today’s economy, you need to distinguish yourself from other job seekers as much as possible. You can do this through varied experience and great references, but you also need to have relevant industry certifications on your resume as well. Having current, numerous Microsoft certifications on your resume shows potential employers that you have what it takes to qualify for well paying jobs in the IT industry.

3. A Microsoft certification signals to employers that you have mastered a certain technical skill.

You can prove your worth to potential employers through job experience, but many employers still rely on the third-party verification that Microsoft certification offers. Unscrupulous job applicants can fabricate job positions and embellish project experience, but you can’t do that with a certification exam. Either you pass it or you don’t. This certainty is very appealing to hiring managers who need a clear indicator of technical expertise in potential employees.

4. There is a Microsoft certification for almost every technical specialty.

No matter what your career path, there is probably a Microsoft certification that fits your specialty. Software developers can obtain a MCAD or MCSD. System engineers pursue MCSE or MCSA. Database analysts and administrators can take the MCITP-DBA exam. With dozens of certifications available, you are sure to find an exam that lines up with your area of expertise.

5. IT security skills are in high demand right now.

Cybersecurity threats are increasing in both frequency and severity with each passing year. Qualified individuals are needed in both the public and private sector to secure computer networks and prevent hacking and fraud. You can show your qualification for these plentiful jobs by obtaining your Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator – Security (MCAS-S) certification. This certification shows that you have the skills to keep Windows systems secure and troubleshoot any network issues that arise. With this credential under your belt, you can market yourself as a security expert and set yourself up for a variety of good job opportunities in this growing IT field.
