The University of Pune (UoP) has decided not to affiliate any new BBA, BCA or BBM (International Business) colleges next academic year. The move comes against the backdrop of over 50 per cent seats of these courses remaining vacant for past two years.

The university had, on Tuesday, come up with new affiliation guidelines, which are put out on its website. The guidelines have been framed as per the perspective plan prepared by the state government for academic year 2011-’12 and proposals for affiliation of new colleges will be considered as per this plan.

Board of College and University Development director WN Gade said the varsity was following the guidelines prescribed by the state government.

“It has been observed that there are few takers for the available seats for these courses. For 14,000 seats in over 40 colleges, only 6,000 students appeared for the common entrance test conducted this year,” former senate member Gajanan Ekbote said.
