If you happen to be a professional working in the Information Technology (IT) industry, you would be aware of the intensely competitive nature of the industry and the constant need it imposes on an IT professional to upgrade skill sets as technology evolves. You may have felt the need to conquer a new technology or upgrade your existing skill set or just to see where you stand among your peers. If this is the case, it is time to explore the advantages that acquiring an IT certification can provide.

Many vendors and third party bodies offer IT certification. Choosing the right IT certification would depend on what your current line of work is. Whether you plan to build on your existing skills or strike out a radically different course professionally, you have to make a decision on the type of certifications. You may opt for a certification provided by vendors like Microsoft, Oracle or Cisco or go in for certification by professional bodies like CompTIA.

Here are seven most sought-after IT certifications in no particular order:

- CompTIA Security+ – This is a certification for IT professionals with at least two-years of industry experience. It is not vendor-specific and is a test of the professional’s knowledge of the fundamentals of security.

-Cisco CCIE/CCNA – This is a certification provided by Cisco Systems for networking professionals. The CCIE is a comprehensive certification for experts, and the CCNA is meant to improve the skills of those with some experience.

-CompTIA A+ – This is tailored for validating the expertise in hardware and can be a valuable certification for computer-related maintenance and support professionals.

-Microsoft MCITP – MCITP stands for Microsoft Certified IT Professional and is a prestigious one meant for professionals in database, enterprise and server administration. This new certification offered by Microsoft assesses an individual’s capability in meeting the demands of common job roles in the IT industry.

-Microsoft MCSE/MCSA – MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer) and MCSA (Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator) are two of the earliest certifications offered by Microsoft that still command respect in the industry. Both certifications demand a certain level of experience and involve a number of grueling examinations.

-Microsoft MCA – MCA (Microsoft Certified Architect) is a certification open to professionals who have a minimum of three years of experience on advanced IT architecture. This is a peer-evaluated certification and is awarded to very few of the aspirants. Obtaining this is considered an achievement in itself and is rated highly in the industry.

-RHCE/RHCA – With the proliferation of Linux based systems, there is a great demand for certified Linux professionals and RHCE (Red Hat Certified Engineer) and RHCA (Red Hat Certified Administrator) are two certifications awarded by Red Hat Inc.; one of the prominent distributors of Linux Operating Systems.

The dependability on computers has only grown as technology as provided a way for almost everyone to own one. This is seen in the way that colleges, businesses, government agencies, and more have integrated the use of computers into their daily function. Students can learn how to work with all aspects of computer usage by entering information technology training programs.

Training programs are designed to teach students how a computer processes and how to maintain all the information used by one. This may seem like a basic undertaking but the work done includes working with all areas of information technology. Students can expect to learn how to design hardware, design software, secure a network, build an Internet application, and much more. The broad range of responsibilities makes earning an education the prime way to successfully enter a career. Before stepping into a specific career a few key steps have to be taken by students to ensure they have the needed knowledge to work effectively.

The first major step before work can start is for students to complete undergraduate degree programs. Both the associate’s and bachelor’s degree level of education are focused on providing students with a fundamental and foundational education in computer science and communications networks. Excluding general education requirements students work through many industry related courses that center on:

computer interfaces
web design techniques
information systems
business applications
operating systems
programming languages

The overall industry focus teaches students to apply, develop, and maintain technologies related to computer information by working to create user-friendly interfaces. The knowledge gained trains students to assist computer users, solve problems, and evaluate technological requirements of a business or individual. A troubleshooting course introduces students to hardware and software management. The process of diagnosing, following procedure, and producing a solution is covered through hands on experience. These courses help students step into advanced study or a career.

Working to complete a graduate degree is step two especially for students that want to enter a specialized area within information technology. Areas can include training in network support, software design, information security, and computer programming. Many of these specializations can be taken as a concentration in an undergraduate degree but to learn advanced techniques and procedures students should continue education into a graduate degree. Many programs focus on applying information technology to global business applications that work together to support the financial and organizational part of a business. A graduate degree in information technology covers a number of specialties that teach students how to work as organization leaders in regards to global economics and international business. Curriculum covers these areas by providing in depth explanation of dynamic programming, parallel computation, data compression, and nonlinear programming. The knowledge gained prepares students to work as researchers, technology specialists, and professors.

Information technology news and technical information pertaining to certification intelligence for exam training is the main purpose of this article. Many people do not know the difference between computer training and certification exam training. I would like to inform everyone what the differences are. Computer training is classroom education with scheduled courses or online training about the career field pertaining to information technology. Let me explain! You may want to become a Server Administrator. To begin with you will need some education somewhere in order to be knowledgeable about the subject and maybe acquire a 2 or 4-year degree or receive some online training with a qualified instructor. You may just want to take a few courses and receive a certificate in this field. This would be considered computer training.

Information technology certification intelligence on exam training is what you need in order to be fully prepared to pass your certification exam. After computer training you may have a degree or a certificate but you still do not have a certification that is recognized by Microsoft, CIW and CompTia or any other. If you have computer training that qualifies you to be a Server Administrator then you will want to get certified in Microsoft, CIW or CISCO. Certification exam training concentrates on preparing you to pass your certification exam. An IT Certification exam is unlike any other exam that you have had in college or school. There are two very important things to consider when preparing for a certification exam. They are the proper study technique and having relevant material that pertains to the actual exam that is up to date with the current market.

There are only a handful of places online that offer Certification exam training. The reason I wrote this article is to provide news and information about the best resources on certification exam training. There are many students of information technology that want this information because they are serious about passing their certification exam on the very first try. This article is not about selling but about helping those who are not informed about Certification exam training.

Another purpose of this article is education concerning information technology certification. There are many colleges and online training about information technology that will prepare you for a particular subject or field but there are but a few places where you can find information technology certification intelligence on exam training.

Say you want to become a PC Technician and you study at a college or receive online training so that you are knowledgeable about that field and receive a diploma or certificate in that area but you still are not certified until you take a certification exam. Even after graduation you will need to schedule an IT certification exam with prometric or pearsonvue in order to be certified in the field that you desire.

How many places do you know where you can get training on how to pass your information technology certification exam. Exam training is not the same as computer training. You will need knowledge of how to study for your certification exam and to know the proper study techniques because an IT exam is not the same as the exams in school. You will also need to know where to get updated material about your certification exam because if you are studying material that is outdated then you will not pass your certification exam. Certification exam training is important if you plan on passing your certification exam the first time so you can avoid 2nd and 3rd exam fees.

Some people may already be working on the job in the profession that they desire, such as a Server Administrator, Desktop Support Technician or a PC Repair Technician. They may have had prior training before employment but have never acquired a certification. They probably know their job and are very knowledgeable about their work and field but need a certification because their employer requires it. They do not need any computer training. They only need Certification exam training so they can pass their certification exam. I hope you get the picture now.

Technology has invaded almost every aspect of our lives – from businesses which depends on it to run their processes to education which uses it generously for finding new ways of imparting knowledge as well as increasing its reach.

Those who want to enter into the exciting, ever-changing world and work closely with technology should consider a career in IT. There are different types of computer-related degrees and programs which can train you in a specific area of Information Technology. Here’s a quick look at some of the popular computer degree programs that you can consider to start your career in IT.

Bachelor of Computer Science: This is one of the sought after computer degrees and an apparent choice for many individuals passionate about computers. But before you jump into it, you need to consider if you have the aptitude for this program. A BS in Computer Science requires above average mathematical and analytical skills. As part of your program, you will be learning complex concepts ranging from algorithms and discreet mathematics to programming languages and networking principles. You can choose from a variety of exciting career options like software engineering, network architecture, database management, etc.

A Bachelor of Computer Science degree typically takes about four years to complete, but some colleges also offer it on a fast-track schedule. You can earn this degree on-campus or enroll for online degree at an accredited institution.

Computer Engineering: This is an engineering degree that combines elements of both computer science and electrical engineering. This computer degree program is suited for individuals who want to work on the hardware side of computers. Computer hardware engineers are responsible for designing, developing, testing, installing, and maintaining computer hardware. As a result, a computer engineering degree imparts training in electronic engineering, software design and hardware-software integration. The types of courses it covers include computer architecture and organization, digital electronics, circuit analysis, embedded systems, etc. A candidate’s science and math skills need to be strong for this degree as well.

Computer Programming: This computer degree is the most pertinent choice for individuals who are singularly focused on programming. A lot of aspiring programmers gravitate towards this program because it combines the study of programming languages with courses on databases, networks, and Internet applications. This type of degree is available at the Associate’s, Bachelor’s as well as at the Master’s level. An Associate’s degree in Computer Programming is the preferred choice for students looking for a quick entry into workforce as it can be earned in two years or less.

An Associate’s of Science in Computer Programming degree qualifies graduates for entry-level programming jobs. Programmers or developers, as they are sometimes referred to, are required to convert a software design into a logical series of instructions called code that will make a computer perform a specific task. In addition to writing new programs, programmers also update, repair, and modify existing programs.

Computer Technology and Networking: This is another computer degree program that has captured the interest of many students aspiring to become a computer technician. As a computer technician or a support specialist, you help people to use their computers. You install software and tools on machines, fix problems when they arise, and are responsible for maintaining system upkeep. A Computer Technology and Networking degree also trains graduates for the job of a network administrator who designs, installs and supports computer systems in an organization. However, it’s possible that you may have to work as a support specialist before you’re offered the role of a network or systems administrator.

This is typically an Associate’s program and can be completed in two years’ time or even less on a flexible schedule from some colleges. Graduates of this program are encouraged to complete additional professional certifications to expand their knowledge and boost their job prospects.

Computer Information Systems: This computer program is also available at the Associate’s, Bachelor’s and Master’s level. Depending on the type of degree you earn, you will be responsible for designing, building, and implementing technology in an organization in order to drive its business forward.

In our technological age, a large percentage of the population is becoming more familiar with computers. This is largely because of information technology careers. Computer-based positions have flooded the job market in the last decade.

If you decide to acquire degrees in computer science, programming or software, you will have a good chance of succeeding. Trends have shown that this field is constantly expanding. These days, it’s a good idea to get involved with new-age computer hardware, software and the Internet.

Are you considering information technology careers? Millions of new students are going to information technology colleges all over the country every year. This is one of the best bets when it comes to useful degrees. I’m not dismissing other degree programs; however some of them tend to lead graduates to nowhere.

Many people are finding it difficult to find good paying jobs with their Liberal Arts degree. I’m not saying that it’s worthless, but opportunities with information technology careers are much more numerous than art-based career openings.

You can easily find the most sought after jobs on the Internet. If you pop open your Google search engine and check it out, you can easily bring up websites like CareerBuilder.com and Monster.com.

You can then type in the job of your choice, such as nursing, law, freelance writing or information technology careers and you will be rewarded with numerous career opportunities.

Since my brother was looking for a job up north, I did a search a few days ago. I took it upon myself to check out the current information technology careers available.

I was able to come up with several options within a few minutes. I saved the links and emailed them to my brother. There are plenty to choose from when it comes to information technology careers.

It doesn’t matter if you’re looking for a job down south, in the Midwest, or on the west coast, you are sure to spot something worth your while. Hop on your computer today and check out the Internet for all the requirements for information technology careers. Your dream job may just be at your fingertips.

It is true that an information technology resume should highlight expertise in certain software programs, systems and hardware. The extent to which these elements are emphasized depends on the job that is being sought and the level of experience a job seeker has.

For example, a computer programmer should focus on the types of software that they developed, covering all phases of development, from planning and testing through execution. If the computer programmer works as part of a team and does not manage others, the focus of their resume should be about the software, the purpose of the application, what phases they worked on and what the result was.

Going into detail is a good idea, and changing the first word of each sentence is preferable so the resume is not loaded with the words wrote and tested. Too much redundancy can be boring to the reader, and may fail to set the job seeker apart from other candidates.

However, if the IT professional is a project leader with extensive experience working with major clients, it is important to show what the project implementations have involved beyond the actual technical requirements. This could include interfacing with stakeholders, third-party software companies, traveling to other states, working with outsourced teams, and even managing vendors and budgets.

If the job is mostly technical, the computer skills section should be at the top of the resume above the Professional Experience category. If the position is more about management, that very section should be minimized and listed at the end of the resume before the Education section.

Keywords are really important when it comes to an IT resume. You can create a section after the summary or profile section that is three columns across and four rows down. A few good keyword phrases to consider include project oriented, solutions focused, project lifecycle management, project team leadership, beta testing, system architecture, applications development, database management, data migration and system conversion.

Including certification at the top of the resume, whether in the profile or using logos is a really good idea. IT certifications are an important credential to have in the field, and have as much weight as a degree in some cases, especially if highly specialized, such as a PMP.

A resume’s design is very important. It is not a wise idea to use templates provided by popular word processing programs. These types of templates are very simple and look too standard. You will want to take the necessary steps to have an eye-catching layout that will stand out in a pile of resumes. For example, using gray shading in a left panel that lists credentials would certainly be effective. Even capitalizing and boldfacing headings can draw the reader’s eyes to something important.

Beyond the technical information and the project explanations, it is always powerful to list selected achievements. This does not have to be about money. It can be about working on a project that went on the market and was successfully rolled out to mobile applications, improving security levels on all of the computers in the company, or training employees on a system after a new implementation or a company merger.

If you were in an interview and were asked, “Why should I hire you over the other seven candidates with similar experience?” What would you tell them specifically? If you were in your boss’s office asking for a raise, what would you say to convince him or her that you deserve it? Whatever your answers are, that is the information that needs to be highlighted in your resume.

Your boss and the hiring manager both know what you do, generally speaking. If you were to verbalize what you do, a hiring manager may tell you something like, “Yes, of course, you are expected to do that. That is what you get paid for. That is what we listed in the job posting. What I want to know is how you do it better than anyone else and what difference you have made to your employers.”

Giving serious thought to these questions will help you to add more value to your resume and will prepare you for the interview.

As the information technology industry has grown, so have the related educational opportunities. Educational curriculum isn’t always the best gauge of industry changes within a particular field, although the rules which make that fact a plainly evident reality for most industries rarely apply in the modern world of information technology. In fact, unlike disciplines such as medicine, the very nature of the current IT industry promotes the idea that advancements in technology are only truly valid and successful when they are recognized and widely accepted by all. For this reason, IT curriculum is often on the heels of the latest developments, with competition among educational providers also helping to spur the cutting edge component of the coursework.

Lately, another trend is beginning to emerge, with more universities offering specializations in the field of IT. While IT and computer science related programs with specializations are becoming more commonplace than ever, the marriage of IT and education was not always such a happy, fruitful union. Not long ago, computer science curriculum could be summed up in two phrases: network administration and programming. Large scale hardware and software IT implementations were performed by technicians certified by Cisco or Microsoft. These were the certifications one sought after they graduated from college but before attempting to find employment. Now, with the implementation and operation of server based intranet systems having long ago been de-mystified, most IT professionals are going from cap and gown to business casual with few if any stops along the way. The reason this is possible has a lot to do with changes in the educational system’s view of information technology.
